This summer from 22 July – 3 September, Stratford Butterfly farm is inviting visitors to come along and make a green promise by writing a pledge to help protect nature. Pledges to do something positive can be actioned at home, school or at work. The pledges will be entered into a weekly prize draw to win a family season ticket to Stratford Butterfly Farm!
Throughout the summer visitors can also see the newly opened Rainforest Realm, an exciting display linking the Butterfly Farm to the rainforests of Belize and the ancient Maya civilisation. Within Rainforest Realm is a cenote which features a Spectacled Caiman named ‘Kenny’ along with an Emerald Tree Boa Snake, 10 endangered Orange Blackfoot Dart Frogs, 3 Basilisk Lizards, an Oustalets Chameleon and 3 Baby Yellow Spotted Amazon River Turtles. The Turtles are growing rapidly and when they are large enough, they will live alongside ‘Kenny’ in the Cenote. The Turtles are one of the largest freshwater turtles in South America growing up to 60cm long. They typically live for around 25 years; however, some have been known to reach 70!

Meet the Mini-Beast handling sessions and Butterfly Life-Cycle demonstrations will take place daily at 11am in the Discovery Zone. The team of experts will demonstrate from egg through to adult, the amazing stages of the butterfly life cycle as well as giving visitors the opportunity to handle a variety of stick insects. Handling and demonstrations are not available on August Bank Holiday Monday and are subject to change.
Jane Kendrick, Marketing Manager at Stratford Butterfly Farm said, “We would love our visitors to pledge their love to nature and make a green action promise this summer. Rainforest Realm opened in March and has proved incredibly popular with our visitors. Kenny has settled in so well along with our new Central American inhabitants!”
