Road at the Bear Pit

Road by Jim Cartwright, at The Bear Pit Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon from 24 – 28 September. Director Steve Farr.

Preview.

A road, a wild night, a drunken tour guide, a journey to the gutter and the stars and back. Jim Cartwright’s award-winning seminal play gives expression to the inhabitants of an unnamed northern road in Eighties Britain.

The play emerged when there were three million people unemployed, widespread poverty, a divided nation, but no food banks.  What is tragic is that it seems just as relevant today. Fewer unemployed, but 2,500 food banks.

With a cast of 22, it includes Justine Osborne as Scullery, Bethan Sennett as Louise, Charlotte Froud as Brenda, Paige Hopper as Carol and Noah Guest as Joey. See the website for the full cast list.

The Production Team comprises of: Director – Steve Farr; Front Stage Manager and Wrangling Boss – Chrissie MacDonald; Back Stage Manager and Wrangling Boss – Lynda Liddament;  Costume Co-ordination – Elizabeth Foster; Costume and Make up – Annie Wilson, Olivia Powell; Lighting and Sound Design – Richard Ball; Lighting and Sound – Tegan Payne, Harry Richardson. Consultant – Jacquie Campbell.

This amateur production of “Road” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
