The weekend commemorates the battle fought on 4 August 1265 between Prince Edward and Simon de Montfort.  The Prince wanted to free his father King Henry III and take revenge on a man who is credited with starting the first Parliament.

War Horses is another great area to visit. Here you can get up close to the owner-riders of the horses taking part in the battle. These horsemen and women are very knowledgeable and skilled and will be more than happy to introduce you to their beautiful steeds.

The Medieval Market is on both days from 10am with 32 food and drink stalls, a beer tent, 39 authentic traders, an artisan craft fayre with 79 Quality crafts, charity and history stalls. There will also be a children’s play area and a picnic area.

While there are car parks around the town, the organisers of the event ask that visitors park in the designated car parking area in Crown Meadow (next to the medieval festival site) £10 per car, all day. Blue Badge holders £5 per car.
