It's one of my favourite shows of the year - Crufts which takes place at the Birmingham NEC from 6 - 9 March.

Crufts, the world’s largest dog show opens today, Thursday 6 March and runs until Sunday 9 March. Organised by The Kennel Club, Crufts will welcome over 24,000 dogs from all around the UK and abroad. This year almost 4,000 dogs are coming from overseas including France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

Different days feature different breed groups. Thursday 6 March it’s Hound & Terrier Group; Friday 7 March it’s the Utility & Toy Groups; Saturday 8 March it’s the Gundogs and Sunday it’s the Working and Pastoral Groups.

There’s a great deal more than the competitive heats however with displays and demonstrations going on throughout the four days. Naming just a few of the many events, you won’t want to miss are the Southern Golden Retriever Display, the Scruffts Final, the Medical Detection Dogs display, Rescue Dog Agility, Flyball heats, Heelwork to Music, the West Midlands Police Dog Display and of course the Best in Show Grand Finale on the Sunday.

In the Discover Dogs area you have the opportunity to get up close to 200 different breeds including vulnerable breeds. You can chat to their owners and learn more of the dogs’ behaviour and personality. A perfect opportunity if you're thinking of buying a dog but aren't sure which breed is right for you and your lifestyle.

There’s also the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Training Ring, the UK's largest dog training programme, offering expert advice and demonstrations. Also, the Dog Activities Ring where you can learn how to unleash your dog’s potential!

The Kennel Club Hero Dog Award is also on going, and still plenty of time for you to read the stories of the dogs and owners shortlisted for this award on the Crufts’ website and vote for your favourite.

And of course there are around 500 trade stalls selling everything imaginable for dogs and their owners, from sparkling collar and leads, to food and treats, bedding, dog clothing, dog toys, grooming accessories, canine style ornaments, soft furnishings, pictures, paintings and much more.
